My name is Anabel Davis. I am a first year student at Chico State currently majoring in Agricultural Business. Here you will find my ePortfolio that includes an inquiry paper on "Who's Concerned About E-Waste?" and a research memo illustrating a sample of Chico State students' level of concern about key environmental issues. In the beginning of the course, we explored the impact of the Internet on the world but I know that the explosion of electronics a nd has a dark side, Here you will also find a keyword paper where I researched Internet Addiction. Finally, I have included several posts that I developed in reference to course assignments.
My best writing can be found in my Inquiry paper where I developed a research instrument based on a National Gallup Poll on US level of concern about environmental issues. I like how I was able to sample a small population of Chico State students' level of concern based on the Gallup Poll and add a few more questions based on my research on electronic waste. When comparing my study to the 2012 and 2013 Gallup polls, Chico State freshman scored similarly to the nation on low level concern about climate change but much higher about their concern about air quality and pollution of drinking water. Like McCright’s analysis of gender on climate change, women showed twice the level of concern and women overall showed a greater level of care and concern in most categories. McCright believes the way men are socialized plays a role in lack of concern about environmental issues. In this small study, I was surprised to see so many similarities to the national Gallup studies. Why is there so little awareness and concern about these issues?
This ePortfolio is a sophisticated way to organize my work and to select projects that I am most proud. This site allows me to add other projects and papers that I may develop in my college career. I like how this ePortfolio allows me to post pictures, music, videos, as well as papers. Learning a new platform does take time and can be frustrating, but knowing others who are also using it helps.
